Annie Leibovitz is an amazing photographer that has taken many an iconic photo and has a knack for creating magic every time she gets behind a lens. So it is not really surprising that Disney decided to pick her to to do a series of portraits of celebrities as Disney characters as part of an ongoing theme park advertising campaign. The result is a stunning series of images that not only capture the spirit of the character and the film but also make each celebrity sparkle as though they had been doused with a very generous helping of Tinkerbell’s fairy dust. This is an inspired advertising campaign and it is also some truly gorgeous photographic art. I love how Annie Leibovitz has not only managed to portray the magic and the delight of each scene, but has also brought as sense of reality and the quiet of a single moment. Her work is truly lightning in a bottle and each work is incredibly beautiful, interesting and mesmerizing. I am in love with her work. I also really love the choices of celebrity. Rachel Weisz makes for a particularly fetching Snow White and Olivia Wilde’s turn as the Evil Queen is perfection. Taylor Swift captures the girlish hope and wonder of Rapunzel beautifully and the lovely Julianne Moore is mermishly amazeballs. I also love how Russell Brand has the swagger and cowardice of Captain Hook down to a tee.
