NASA Gives Us A View Of Mystic Mountain

NASA’s Hubble telescope is renowned for capturing stunning pictures of the stars, nebulae, planets and the Universe in general, and the below image is no exception. In celebration of Hubble’s 20th anniversary, this spectacular image of ‘Mystic Mountain’ was captured.

It absolutely blows my mind that Space is full of all these amazing wonders and I am just really grateful that we have the technology to experience even a little part of something that we would otherwise only be able to speculate about.

Mystic Mountain

NASA Hubble Mystic Mountain

NASA had this to say about the above image:

Hubble’s 20th-anniversary image shows a mountain of dust and gas rising in the Carina Nebula. The top of a three-light-year tall pillar of cool hydrogen is being worn away by the radiation of nearby stars, while stars within the pillar unleash jets of gas that stream from the peaks.

I love the colours and shapes and how a mountain of dust and gas has such a pronounced form. The image is dramatic and full of mystery.

The fact that Hubble has celebrated over 20 years of being awesome in our dark skies is a mighty achievement and one that NASA should be very happy about. Each step into Space brings us a little closer to what can only be determined as the biggest adventure ever.

What do you think? Does this look like a mountain to you? What are your thoughts on the Hubble telescope?

what do I think?!? that image goes beyond thinking! but it reminds me of one of the original stunning images from the HST made public that truly resounded with meaning…the so-called “pillars of creation” http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0702/pillars5_hst_big.jpg

the HST had its troubles when it was first launched and didn’t even work. when that image was released after some repairs in space, it established HST’s bona fides. and the hits keep comin’!

    thanks for posting that!

Thank you lots for your comment. I agree with you completely and I really love that image, it is one of my favourites. It is one of those images that make you think and at the same time slack-jawed with wonder.
I love now that HST is up and running to full capacity we get to experience images like these.

Thanks again and you are more than welcome. There will be an awesome Space image going up every week 🙂
